Deacon Richard Lapierre
Deacon Richard Lapierre was ordained to the diaconate on October 15, 1994 by Bishop Louis E. Gelineau. He is the deacon assistant at Our Lady of Good Help/ St. Theresa’s Shrine in the villages of Mapleville, and Nasonville, respectively, and at St. Patrick’s in Harrisville, where he serves as Parish and Cemetery Manager. He served as Finance Director at St. Benedict’s and St. Kevin’s in Warwick, RI.
In his secular life, he ran his family’s insurance business for many years while serving as a volunteer firefighter, rising to the rank of Deputy Chief. Following his retirement from both these occupations, he was the Director of Emergency Medical Services at Brown University where he taught pre-hospital Emergency Medicine and authored two textbooks in this field. After leaving Brown, he went to work for the Burrillville Police Department as a Telecommunicator, retiring in 2021. He continues to serve as the Police Department Chaplain and as Chaplain for the Northern RI Firemen’s League. He is widowed and has two children and four grandchildren.
