Rev. Jose Parathanal, CMI, JCL, LLB Judge- Diocese of Providence Marriage Tribunal

Father Jose is a member of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate from Kerala, India and was in residence at St. Thomas More Parish in Narragansett, RI until accepting Bp. Tobin’s appointment as pastor of Our Lady of Good Help/ St. Theresa Shrine/ St. Patrick’s in the summer of 2022.

Fr. Jose Parathanal was born in 1960 in the state of Kerala, India he is the fourth child of Mr. Joseph and Anna Parathanal, among their six children. In 1977, after the 10th grade, Jose joined the North Indian Mission Province of the religious congregation, Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI). He made the profession of religious vows in the CMI Congregation in 1982, and was ordained as a priest on December 29, 1990.

Fr. Jose served the CMI Bijnor Province and Bijnor Diocese in various capacities: Vocation Director for both Carmelites Community and Bijnor diocese; Rector of the minor seminarians of the Carmelites; Priest in charge of different mission stations in the Himalayan regions of North India; member and Secretary of Priests Council of the Diocese of Bijnor; member of the Inter-Archdiocesan Marriage Tribunal; Editor of the Province News Bulletin and Formation Coordinator of St. John’s CMI Province, Spiritual Director and Confessor in the formation houses of religious sisters of different religious congregations.

Fr Jose began his priestly ministry in the United States in 2005 and has since then served in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, CA, the Diocese of Brooklyn, NY, and the Diocese of Providence, RI. Holding degrees both in Civil and Canon Law, he has served as a judge on the Diocesan Marriage Tribunal since 2020.
